Waukon’s Own Dr. Benjamin Nesseim Urges Patients to Explore the Region’s Trail Systems for Their Health
Dr. Benjamin Nesseim writes walking prescriptions to serve as a reminder to his patients that he takes his recommendation of walking seriously. “Walking can have a big impact in the lives of my patients. I recommend it to all of my patients who are able to walk. It can help them better manage their chronic conditions and their weight. It is an essential part of a healthy lifestyle.” Serving patients at Veteran’s Memorial Hospital in Waukon, Nesseim emphasizes that walking can address arthritis, obesity, hypertension (elevated blood pressure), high cholesterol, and depression.
“When I write a prescription, it serves as a reminder to my patient that I take the recommendation of walking seriously,” says Nesseim. The doctor himself loves to be active throughout the Driftless, describing Northeast Iowa as an outdoor paradise. In his downtime, Nesseim enjoys walking the trails at Effigy Mounds and exploring the eleven-mile loop that is Trout Run Trail. We look forward to watching how the walking prescriptions issued by Nesseim and his colleagues at Veterans Memorial impact the overall health of their patients.
